Fearing the End of the World? Priest Explains 4 Ways to Face Apocalyptic Messages

Many times we have received apocalyptic messages that can take away our peace. If you are afraid of the end of the world, the reflection of Father Eduardo Hayen Cuarón can help you maintain serenity and trust in God.

On his X account, Father Cuarón, a priest in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Ciudad Juárez in Mexico, pointed out that many people, upon receiving disturbing messages about the end of the world, are filled with anguish.

“A few days ago I received, from a person, one of those prophecies: the world will end this December 2023. What can we say as Catholics?” he noted.

Faced with these supposed prophecies that fill the internet, the priest highlighted four things Jesus teaches us.

1. The world will end.

When we look at the selfishness of men, the violence of one against another, and the accumulation of sins upon sins, we wonder if so much evil is destined to be perpetuated for infinite centuries.

No. The universe, as a creature, has its days numbered. Just as “God set limits to the sea when it covered the earth” (Job 38:10), so evil will not prevail eternally in the world.

2. Signs of evil and disorder can make one believe that the end of the world is imminent.

Some, when analyzing the facts of history, reach that conclusion. However, these signs have accompanied the journey of humanity.

For example, in the 14th century, with the appearance of the Black Death, which decimated a third of the European population, many believed it was the end of the world, but it was not.

Jesus tells us not to pay attention to those who prophesy the end of the world for this or that date. They are usurpers of the only Master and Lord.

3. Our life is, until the last minute, in the blessed hands of the Heavenly Father.

“My life is in your hands; deliver me from my enemies and persecutors!” (Ps. 31:16) “But you, Lord, are my refuge; you are my God and the rock in which I trust.” (Ps 94:22)

Let us put ourselves in the hands of Him who sustains the world and trust in Him alone.

4. God calls us to bear witness to serenity, peace, and wisdom in a restless world.

The words of Jesus resonate within us: “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give to you; I do not give it to you as the world gives. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be afraid.” (Jn. 14:27)

Thus we will be prepared to receive the end of the world without panic and in the peace of the children of God.

Let’s trust Jesus with our fears!
